I am quickly becoming un-enamored with Twitter.  It seems everyone on there is an attention whore.  I am guilty of it myself looking for replies in what I write.  I don’t want to be that kind of person – seeking attention at the sake of my dignity.  Most people talk about wildly uninteresting things to me.  TV. Pop culture.  Obscure and crappy music.  Etc.  I unfollowed over 200 people yesterday in my quest to make my twitter stream a better place. Tonight, I didn’t even open Twhirl and join in.  All the Kiwis post this time of night and they seem to only talk about New Zealand pop culture and television.  I want to get to know a person.  I want someone to share some feeling and emotion with me.  I have found this sort of thing is very few and far between.  Oh, Facebook and now Twitter have fallen to the wayside.  Will any social media other than blogging suit me?

A Straight Water Convert…

This is a very interesting new occurrence for me.  I was compulsively drinking just gallons and gallons of sugar free Wal-Mart orange drink.  I ran out and mom was out of town so I couldn’t get more so I started to just drink water.  I have a big two gallon glass container and I fill it with ice and water.  The water has to be ice cold for me to drink it.  This is just amazing and I think it will be healthier for me.  I am not ingesting all that Nutrasweet.  I am actually really enjoying the ice water much to my surprise.  I thought I would find it lacking.  I have never been able to drink water and have drank tea and sodas all my life. 

George Update…

Mrs. Florene called me late last night telling me George was denied bail by the judge during his afternoon hearing.  This means he will have to sit in jail until his court date in a few weeks.  This also meant he lost his job.  I am very saddened by that.  George had such a good for him and a good paying job.  It had made such a big difference in the quality of life for him and his mother.  Now, Mrs. Florene will have to go back to faring off of her Social Security.  I will worry about her.  I wish I could wave a wand and fix it all.  My father is a fixer and likes to fix everything including me.  It has rubbed off on me over the years.

As I’ve said before, I live in a poor neighborhood.  There is a lot of foot traffic and I think it is because some of these people just can’t afford cars.  There is this guy in a wheelchair and he has visited me several times before asking for money.  He was pacing almost frantically up and down the streets of my neighborhood stopping at various houses.  Today, I asked him just what he needed with the money.  I suspected beer.

“I just want to roll down to the convenience store and buy me some cigarettes,” he told me honestly.

“Why didn’t you tell me that before?” I asked. “I’ve got some cigarettes and can help you with that problem.”

Dad would just die as he pays for my cigarettes and they are expensive.  I gave the fellow two packs of Marlboro Reds and he immediately lit up not wasting any time.  You could visibly see his demeanor change right in front of my eyes as he began to relax.

“How did you get to be paralyzed if you don’t mind me asking you sir?” I asked.

“Bad motorcycle accident,” he replied. “A car hit me.”

I live in a very interesting neighborhood it seems.  It keeps Maggie busy guarding the house.  Honestly?  I felt terrible for giving those cigarettes away.  I just can’t afford it and it may make a big difference at the end of the week when I will run low on smokes.   I only get a carton a week.  Things like this just pique my social anxieties as well.  I don’t want to fool with strange people at my front door.  I abhor solicitations like that. It is imposing and rude in my mind. I would never, ever do it personally.

I was thinking this morning how most of the medications we take treat symptoms and do not cure our ailments.   The only cures I could think of were vaccines for like polio.  I take Risperdal.  It controls the symptoms of my schizophrenia to a certain degree, but it doesn’t cure the disease.  Many people take medications to LOWER their cholesterol and not to cure what is causing the problem.  It was just food for thought and I don’t know what got me to thinking about this this morning. I thought is was interesting, though.  Big Pharma must love this – to keep us on medications.  They wouldn’t make much money if the ailment could just be cured.  (Oh, that sounded conspiratorial and paranoid schizophrenic didn’t it? lol)

No News from George…

George has just disappeared.  Mrs. Florene gave me a frantic phone call last night looking for him. He apparently missed work last night. I assured her he would be home soon to eat and sleep.  He is just drunk.  He is, no doubt, over with the crack whores and the dollar shots of grain alcohol over at the shot house.  Maybe I need to drive over there this morning and see about him.  I would want him to come and rescue me if I got in such a state. I worry about my friend so very much and hate to see him delve back into this way of living.  I really don’t know what to do.  Any suggestions?  I would love your feedback.  An intervention?

Computer Stuff…

My windows 7 DVD has two versions of Windows 7: 32-bit and 64-bit.  32-bit will only recognize a little over 3Gb of memory on your computer so the full 4Gb I have installed is wasted.  I installed the 64-bit edition and now all my memory is being used.  I was so excited! lol  I am easily amused.  The only problem I am having with the 64-bit edition of windows 7 is it is playing havoc with the latest update of iTunes.  They are just not playing nice.  Let’s hope Apple releases another update soon.

Christianity as an Aggressive Religion…

I was thinking this morning after the religious rant comment I got yesterday how aggressive Christians can be.  You don’t see Hindu and Buddhist missionaries, but you see lots of Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Christians plowing their wares.  There are missionaries all over the world meddling with indigenous populations and their time held beliefs.  Christians have a very real tendency to get “preachy” as well.  I saw those all CAPS in that comment yesterday and my eyes just glossed over – not an effective way to bring one of the “lost” into the fold.   I wonder what goes on in the mind of these people – this fervent need to make someone believe as you do.  I know they mean well, but it can be a bit misguided and a big turn off for someone like me who has struggled with agnosticism for years. 

Twitter Unfollow Craziness…

I am slowly whittling down the people I follow on Twitter.  I was following over 600 people.  Gone are the foursquare people.  The people that post constant links.  The people the do Follow Friday.  And the people who retweet that dealsplus crap.  I have also been striving to get rid of negative people as well most importantly – people that constantly complain.  Do you remember that person I so wanted to befriend on Twitter?  I thought she was the bee’s knees until I followed her for awhile.  She was always bitching and moaning – everything was a constant problem.  Unfollow and I felt better for doing it.  Also gone are the people that constantly post about television and pop culture.  I don’t want to know what color panties Lady Gaga is wearing. lol  And I only watch the Weather Channel.   All this has made Twitter a much more positive and fulfilling place to visit with every day.
